At the end of August, NAEYC sent us our approval for the NAEYC Accreditation Self-Study. We were so excited, we quickly logged online and started looking at where to start. Boy, did this make us think twice about the process. It was so overwhelming and we had no idea how or where to even start this process! We quickly contacted Lee at Maine Roads to Quality with a panicked cry for help and support.
Wednesday (9/26/18), We met with Lee and Marnie to break down the process, and to create a timeline for the process. Thank goodness for this help! From the meeting, we decided to shoot for Spring 2020 to apply for Candidacy and came up 3 goals to work on and be completed for Winter 2018/2019. These three goals are:
- Get family and staff buy in for why accreditation is valuable to our program.
- Review and start working on the needed assessment items for Standard 1: Relationships.
- Start reviewing Standard 5: Health and Standard 10: Leadership and Management, create or adapt policies to meet the needed assessment items for these standards.
Whew! With the help of setting up a timeline and breaking it into pieces, made this process seem more manageable for success. Lee and Marnie are going to be with us to help support this process in the next year and a half and we are very thankful for that. Right after this meeting, we have begun to break these standards down even more, to ensure success in achieving our goals.
One of our goals during this process, is it keep up with this blog to explain our process and to keep everyone updated! Be on the look out for frequent updates either through here or through video!
