We understand what it means to be a busy parent and having to balance working and raising children. Our difference sets us apart from the standard idea of “daycare” because it’s all about the experience for our students and families from our family communication app to our LEARN curriculum helping students with School Readiness to our smaller classroom sizes and our home style cooked foods and snacks.
Pettengill Academy uses two curriculums to ensure students receive a well rounded early education. The program uses both a High Quality, Research Based Curriculum, FROGSTREET and LEARN, which was developed by our owner Chantel Pettengill, using her many years of being a public school teacher. The greatest strength of both curriculum is the adaptability to each student while allowing for flexibility with teachers to plan for each student as an individual. Our curriculum focuses on academic development as well as social-emotional development as well while teaching and reinforcing each student’s critical thinking skills.
Our daycare classrooms practice daily skills that will help to prepare your student for future schools such as participation during circle time, walking with classmates in a line down the hallway in addition to basic academic skills. They will develop mastery of these skills early and in an environment in which they feel safe and secure. They will develop self reliance through the repetition of these skills and other age appropriate tasks such as cleaning up after meals, dressing themselves to go outside and other simple jobs around the class. Your student will gain confidence in themselves and allow them to become responsible for themselves and their environment.
Our Natural Playground is built for exploring, with over 5,000 sq. ft. of natural play space and trees. Daycare students get to develop an appreciation for nature as well as bring back creativity and imagination. Our younger students get to use a 1,000 sq. ft. play space that is rubber matted for a safer environment while allowing them to move, climb and run as well.
Smaller class sizes! Our daycare classrooms either meet State Max Class size or are below! We understand just how much each student grows and learns in a smaller environment as shown in the chart below :
Always know what happened in your student’s day!
Our teachers can let you know about your students daily activities through our partnership with HiMama.
From diapers and bottles to naps, meals, activites, pictures and even video. It’s also an easy way to let you know about reminders for supplies and upcoming events.
We offer dependable and reliable care because we understand parents rely on us. We strive to be open during most types of weather and typically close for only 16 days per year which includes Teacher Training Days and Holidays.
Our Open Concept daycare allows Pettengill Academy to create a collaborative community between our teachers and our families. Being open concept allows students to become comfortable with all the teachers in our program, and allows for additional security and extra hands when needed.
Our students are served Lunch and PM Snack with a 12 week rotating menu. We follow and go above the Federal Food Program Guidelines. The fruits and vegetables we serve are either fresh or frozen, never from a can! Our babies are served homemade baby food following parent instructions.
Chantel and Zack Pettengill are both second generation entrepreneurs who understand what it means to be a working parent in these times. Along with our senior management team, They are on site directly interacting with staff, parents and children. Strong, positive leadership is important for ongoing collaboration and communication between staff, teachers, parents, and children.
We are thrilled that you are looking for the smartest early education choice for your family! These early years are the most formative and Pettengill Academy welcome’s you to learn what makes us different and why it will make all the difference for your student.
I started my early education journey in 1999 working at a large daycare center, I then went on to the University Of Maine at Farmington and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 2006. I then spent 6 years teaching in the Public School System. During my time teaching middle school students, I realized my heart was pulling me back to teaching our youngest students and setting them up for success for future schooling. So in 2012, we started our childcare adventure with a small home center in the basement of our home. We grew and expanded into our current location in 2015.
Providing quality care is something that we have worked hard to achieve and a part of what makes us the smart choice for childcare! You can contact us here anytime at 207-241-0046.
We thank you again for your interest with us and we look forward to serving your family’s childcare and educational needs and also being a part of your student’s growth and development. We are excited to welcome you to our family!
Sincerely,
Chantel and Zack Pettengill
